Their latest « Silver & Gold » album (2019), rooted in Ghana’s and Nigeria’s music of the 1960s and 70s, sets the scene for this song and echoes a frantic Afrobeat outcry. Discarding both bitterness and pessimism, Sir Jean rebukes the wheel of misfortune that leads to modern-day slavery. « Twenty Four Seven » dances on the sour melody inspired by the working poor’s fate. Our modern world’s harsh social reality is illustrated by a repeating refrain, absurdly picking out the days of the week as an endless cycle for those who are caught for life in the sprawling modern liberalized economy.
